On August 9, 2025, Caterpillar Energy Solutions hosted a big family party on its company premises in Mannheim, Germany, to celebrate the “100 Years of Caterpillar” anniversary. A special highlight of the party was the Centennial World Tour Truck from Caterpillar Inc., which made a stopover in Mannheim that day.
Caterpillar Energy Solutions: A Look Behind the Scenes
About 2,700 visitors celebrated the 100th anniversary of Caterpillar Inc. on the premises of Caterpillar Energy Solutions in Mannheim. Besides an extensive entertainment program and catering, there were some exciting highlights for visitors. For example, a restored single-cylinder engine from 1899, which had been completely overhauled and restored in its original color, was showcased. During the party, all guests had the opportunity to take a look behind the scenes. The training workshop, the production halls, and the Service Center West were opened for visitors to explore. A wide range of activities were available for children, from a bouncy castle to an excavator and forklift simulator.
On the Historical Tracks of Caterpillar Inc.
In 1925, Benjamin Holt and Clarence Leo Best laid the foundation for Caterpillar Inc. The name “Caterpillar” goes back to the first commercially successful track-type tractor, today’s dozer. The first field test of this invention by Benjamin Holt took place in 1904. The track-type tractor crawled on the ground like a caterpillar. Eventually, this became the company name. In 1910, Holt registered “Caterpillar” as a trademark with the US Patent Office, and in 1925, Holt and Best joined forces to form the Caterpillar Tractor Company, now known as Caterpillar Inc.
Centennial World Tour Truck Presents Past, Present, and Future of Caterpillar
The Centennial World Tour Truck was a special highlight of the party. Inside the truck, visitors were able to visually experience the past, present, and future of Caterpillar Inc. “Throughout its history, Caterpillar Inc. has made a name for itself as the world’s largest manufacturer of high-performance construction equipment”, said Peter Körner, Managing Director of Caterpillar Energy Solutions, in his speech. “Caterpillar Inc. also has a strong foothold in other business areas. The gas generator sets manufactured here, at the traditional site in Mannheim, are deployed all over the world for reliable heat and power generation.”
