For the eighth time, Caterpillar Energy Solutions won one of the coveted trophies at the renowned Hamburg WorldMediaFestivals in 2024.
This time, the entry comprised two video productions—so-called “flow films”—created in cooperation with the event and film agency Motionplan. These films reached the first place in the “Training/Technical Skills” category. The jury was especially impressed by the successful visualization of technical processes inside MWM gas generator sets.
Every year, the international competition for communication media honors outstanding corporate film, TV, web, and print productions.
The video project was rolled out by Frank Fuhrmann, Manager Communications at Caterpillar Energy Solutions (idea and project management), and the Motionplan video team under the supervision of Marcus Seip (production). Caterpillar Energy Solutions has been cooperating with the event and film agency Motionplan since 2009. Over the years, the various video projects have garnered numerous awards.
The high-quality visualization enables the impressive, easy-to-understand demonstration of the internal water and air circuits of the gas engine, which are normally not visible. The color change of the displayed circuits shows the viewer how the temperatures of the operating materials change. In the videos, text overlays explain the respective processes. For the production of the films, the MWM gas engines set was painstakingly recreated from CAD data and produced as a bluish grid generator set in line with the CI.
To prevent premature wear or outages, gas engines require regular maintenance. The videos are used especially for training service staff. On YouTube, they are also available in English. “The goal is to provide a clearer understanding of the technical processes of the generator set. By way of visualization and animation in the form of a film, complex processes can be displayed in a transparent manner. In this way, diagnoses can be made more quickly and effectively”, says Frank Fuhrmann.
