Mannheim, March 20, 2024
The topic of sustainability plays an important role in apprenticeships at Caterpillar Energy Solutions. In basic and advanced workshops carried out together with Klimaschutzagentur Mannheim, the apprentices of Caterpillar Energy Solutions learn how they can personally contribute to climate and biodiversity protection. For this year’s Earth Hour, which will take place on March 23, 2024, the apprentices have created warming and biodiversity strips to visualize the impact of climate change on biodiversity. “Earth Hour” is a campaign of the World Wildlife Fund (WWF). For the 18th time, lights will be switched off from 8:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. on this day in order to draw attention to the need for more climate and environmental protection.
Apprentices introduce their ideas in workshops
Sustainability is one of the key topics in apprenticeships at Caterpillar Energy Solutions. This year, Caterpillar Energy Solutions will again hold a basic workshop as well as advanced workshops in collaboration with Klimaschutzagentur Mannheim in order to sensitize its apprentices to the topic of sustainability in the private industry and in the company. Klimaschutzagentur Mannheim features presentations, workshops, and consulting services for companies in Mannheim to make climate protection an important topic at the workplace. For example, at last year’s basic workshop apprentices learned how to calculate and minimize their personal carbon footprint. They also had the opportunity to introduce and present their own ideas and suggestions on how to make the daily work and office life more sustainable. The next basic workshop for the new apprentices will take place in September.
Further campaigns and measures planned
The basic workshop will be followed by advanced workshops. The range of topics includes “climate and energy”, “climate and nutrition”, “climate and consumption”, and “climate and health”. For example, the workshops feature discussions on how to save energy at the workplace, how to effectively separate waste, and how the climate change impacts humanity.
Another campaign for more climate protection is to be implemented this year. Within the scope of the Energy Scouts project initiated by the Rhine-Neckar Chamber of Industry and Commerce, the company premises in Mannheim are to be upgraded with a green façade and green roofs on the smoking cabins. The objective of the projects and workshops on the topic of climate protection is to encourage apprentices to think outside the box and actively contribute ideas and suggestions in their working environment.
