This year, the FOCUS-MONEY survey 2022 again tested Germany’s best traditional companies. The survey examined 844 traditional companies from 117 industries that were founded more than 100 years ago and that have at least 500 employees. For the study, company ratings were collected by means of population surveys, and their median values were calculated. The main question was which companies—in the opinion of those interviewed—are most successful in achieving positive distinction on the market even today. For this, a total of 127,644 votes were evaluated. Numerous famous German brands such as Melitta, Ravensburger, Haribo, and Steiff are listed in the various survey categories.

For the ranking of the traditional companies, two categories were determined, “Top” and “Best”. The “Top” companies are 251 companies that scored above average. The 171 companies that exceeded the average of the companies marked as “Top” were designated as “Best”. This year, Caterpillar Energy Solutions reached the 13th place among 29 engineering companies. With a total score of 2.59, the enterprise secured its place among the “Top” traditional companies. Caterpillar Energy Solutions had already been honored by the survey in 2019 and 2020, and in 2021, it had been designated as one of the “Best” traditional companies. This year, Caterpillar Energy Solutions again underlined its position as a tradition-rich, leading enterprise in its industry.

The survey shows which companies with a history of at least 100 years have best adapted to changed market, social, and environmental conditions and have achieved distinction in the market. According to the survey, innovative drive is a key success factor for traditional companies.

In 2021, Caterpillar Energy Solutions celebrated its grand 150th anniversary. This year, the MWM brand celebrates its 100th anniversary. Founded by automobile pioneer Carl Benz as “Mechanische Werkstätte” in Mannheim back in 1871, MWM is still one of the leading and most prestigious brands in the field of gas engines and power generator sets. Since 2011, the traditional company has been a subsidiary of Caterpillar, which also boasts a long tradition.
